PowerBase Mini Adapter

frame-000000

I review the new PowerBase Mini adapter, which enables you to play Sega Master System games on any Sega Genesis model system.

Clarification:  Price is actually $39.99, and both the Nomad and Genesis 3 have to be modded for this to work; not the cart itself.

    Good review John! I was hoping you’d mention comparability with the Retron 5. Too bad it doesn’t read flash carts or homebrews.. And I’d get this just to play Dynamite Dux in HD 🙂

    • John Gamester

      Dynamite Dux…LOL so funny… Thanks Erek.

    I bought the Power Base Mini when I bought my Retron 5. I never had any experience with Master System games until now. So far I have Rampage, Hang On, Space Harrier and Wonder Boy. I’m definitely looking forward to trying more.

    That’s a neat add on. I had no clue the Power Base Converter didn’t work on the Model 2 Genesis/Mega Drive. My favorite Master System game has to be Sonic 1. It’s the only one I played.

    Sorry John but FYI the Retron 5 will never play Flashcarts because an update cannot correct this, it is a probelm with hardware, the way cartridge slots work in interacting with the cartridge, it will sadly never be fixed be it simply cannot be. Fortunately Flashcarts DO work great with the Super Retro Trio.

      Wow, I appreciate you letting me know that, and that’s too bad. 🙁

      Super job I hope in a later video to see if works with the Retrogen as I have it and I think I saw it work but I just don’t know. Wean he does the NES to SNES version of the Retrogen I hope to if something like the below will work.

      MaximumRD;

      your right about the Retron 5 and flash carts since it’s eumaltor just like rebiuting your NES using something like an Raspberry PI computer board wound be. In that case your games are running off software in Linux.

      I don’t I know but I think thing’s the NWC 1990 Reproduction Cartridge work with Retron 5

    Would the Power Base Converter work on a model 2 Genesis if I plug it into an adaptor or a Game Genie? Does it work with the Super Retro Trio?

    • lancep2014

      As don’t own the Super Retro Trio or the Power Base Converter can’t say YES or NO. I will get The Power Base Converter Mini ASAP. The Game Genie thing I don’t will work based on this. The Super Boy add-on for the SNES if you wanted to play game boy games with the Game Genie you needed the Gameboy version and a adapter. So I’m sure you will need the Master System version of Game Genie.

        Basically, I was wondering if the Power Base Converter can’t be used on a model 2 Genesis solely because of its shape. Will it work using an adaptor or a Genesis Game Genie without punching in any codes as a pass through? BTW, there is no Master System Game Genie.

          I just something an 240pin to 70pin like thing then no. If it like the Retro Gen and works by System on Chip then may be.
