About Gamester81

John “Gamester81” Lester started playing video games at a very young age. His first ever console that he played was a Colecovision, quickly followed by an Atari 2600, and his passion for video games hasn’t stopped. In 2008 John decided to start a video game review show on YouTube called Gamester81 by reviewing rare and retro video game systems and games. His show quickly grew in popularity, and he became friends with many other gamers in the YouTube community.

He is also one of the hosts of the All Gen Gamers Podcast which is a bimonthly podcast for people and video games of all generations.

Some of John’s other hobbies includes collecting Star Wars memorabilia (YouTube channel Starwarsnut77), playing classic arcade games (YouTube channel Gamester81Arcade), watching sports, and listening to music. John is a big fan of the 80’s and 90’s and in 2009 started a YouTube channel called NEStalgiaholic where he talks about nostalgic items and memories from his childhood.

Nice review John thanks, I can’t recommend Snatcher on the Sega CD enough …

    • John Gamester

You are absolutely right, Snatcher is a classic!

Will guys you have to remember CD Buners were like $4,000 then so they felt no need add copy-portion.

    • lancep2014

Forgot to add since most SEGA CD disks has the game as an dot bin file it’s easy to rip them flash carts but I don’t think it will work as eumators need the BIOS even if your playing the real game off the DVD-RW drive.

      Very good point indeed!

        Thank you

Great review John! Really enjoy your reviews of these obscure systems. Sega seems to be the king of console revisions and add-ons! I wonder why the 32X is not compatible with the CDX?

Again, thank you for the excellent retro gaming videos!

    • John Gamester

Thanks a lot…I appreciate your support.

It is compatible! Actually, I have both and they work as charm. The only issue is the CD tray which does not open fully, so the instructions mentioned you need a spacer that did not went to the market, I heard it was because SEGA did not get FCC approval. So they included a sticker in the box mentioning it was not compatible.

      Great console!

Glad you’re enjoying the CDX :). Hope the one I sold ya lasts a long time.

Btw, one thing you’re wrong about is the 32X. The CDX CAN work on the 32X. You have to just take off the spacer plastic ring on the bottom, then it’ll fit. There’s even the port on the side for the cable to plug into. Works like a charm.

    Either way, enjoy!

With System on Chip techley something like the Power Based Mini could be made for 32X games making mods like that unneeded.

I still kick myself for not holding onto mine. It was the most compact version of the system. But when the PS1 was about to be released, I sold my CDX along with my 32x, which did work with it, to afford Sony’s new console.

  • lancep2014

One thing on the SEGA CD he missed it was one of the only non SNK game consoles to have games that are almost 100% pure clones of the arcade versions.

  • lancep2015

Thiers one thing about the SEGA CD that most don’t know about. It had the real

Sonic the Hedgehog 2; Yes Sonic CD is the true Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Do bad The Sega Channel wouldn’t work with it.

With help yes if your Cable TV system sill had it. if you have mmoc (mintl media over cowax) networking and an old Sega Channel adapter then you could play all of your genesis games of your pc saving were an tear on the carts.
