Shocking Secret about the Bricks in Super Mario Bros. Did You Know…?

The original Super Mario Bros. is one of my favorite video games of all time. It paved the way for so many video games afterwards. You play the role of a common man trying to save the princess in a magical kingdom with a ‘Alice in Wonderland’ feel of eating mushrooms make you grow taller, travel across land and sea, smash bricks that were made of people.

Wait — the bricks in Super Mario Bros were all people? Yep, it’s true.

As page four of the Super Mario Bros. instruction manual clearly states.

One day the kingdom of the peaceful mushroom people was invaded by the Koopa, a tribe of turtles famous for their black magic. The quiet, peace-loving Mushroom People were turned into mere stones, bricks and even field horse-hair plants, and the Mushroom Kingdom fell into ruin.

That’s right! Every time you smash a brick in Super Mario Bros., you’re shattering one of Toad’s cousins. All for a stupid coin.

Now don’t you feel bad?
