Hey everyone,

So a few weeks ago at the flea market I picked up a sega genesis model one for 5 bucks it was dusty and had no connections so a score for me! So I took it apart did some cleaning of 20 years of dust, grime and a little dead bug. =P

Though it powered on I cannot get it to generate a video signal, (I'm currently using a old NES RF connector) I've checked all soldering points and can't find anything broken or nicked, when I hook it up to the T.V I can see a feint video signal but it's still not recognizable behind the static. Does anyone know where I can find how to fix or has fixed this issue?

Much appreciated, guys. 🙂

I had a bit of trouble trying to set up my Mega Drive 2 again after my brother had it for some time. I could not find it on any of my CRT TVs but when I auto scanned it eventually found it on the last few frequencies. Could you post some pictures of the cable and the PCB points and plug. You may need to use an official Sega RF cable, or alternatively an AV cable readily available on Ebay.

I use a old CTR TV for all my classic game(s) testing and such, goes better with the nostalgia. 😛

Haha, that looks kinda dirty, though I can't see anything that is obviously wrong. The only thing I can really suggest is to buy an AV cable for the system, in Australia these are about $5 (basically the same USD to AUD) shipped from Hong Kong. This sounds a little cheap I know, but I get amazing quality from my $2.20 (shipped) n64 cables.

It is really dirty (still) looking at it close up =P and the channel button apparently was broken off sometime in it's day.

Though hey thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to pick up one next payday $10total isn't bad for a old sega.

Try playing it with the Cable unplugged. AS in the cable TV, and just have the system hooked up to the back of the TV. I believe the NES put out mroe RF power to make it through the box. I know I cannot use a box with my Atari 2600, but if I use an RF-RCA adapter I can connect it directly to the TV and it works fine. So I recommend doing that, and if that works then just get a proper switch box for the system, or just get an adapter to plug it directly into the coaxil input on the back of the TV. Also make sure the system is not PAL or if you live in a PAL area, make sure its not NTSC or NTSC-J.
