Released in November (2017) by Bridge Direct under the Basic Fun label, these are number 08 (Joust) and 10 (Rampage) in the Arcade Classics Series exclusive to Walmart stores.
UPC Labels – Joust: 88556109593 / Rampage: 88556109591
These minicades feature the much nicer OLED full color screen like the Qbert and Frogger! Better packaging and a nice arcade type cabinet design!
The packaging is again very well done and looks great on the shelf for display. Both units have the standard on/off switch, three position volume control, joystick and start/pause buttons. Rampage has an extra button for “punch”
The games play rather well and just like the arcade the higher in level you go the more challenging it becomes. The games do feature the NES ports of the games, but if you like those ports its not really that much of a detractor. Especially for under 20 dollars!
Game sounds are adequate, not arcade perfect but do get the job done and sound nice. Early in 2018, Bridge Direct is planning on releasing a OLED screen defender minicade! which would be 09 in the series (I am curious what 11 will be since they tend to release these in pairs)
Pros:
- OLED Screen!
- Nice artwork!
- Mini Arcade Cabinet Design!
- Great packaging!
- Responsive control
Cons:
- Sounds/music more NES that arcade
- Rampage marquee seems a little small
- no backlit marquee (this would really look cool!)
Overall these Minicades get the job done and are fun. My favorite of the two is Joust!
Rating: (4 out of 5 Minicades)
