Today (Monday the 10th) Electronic Arts announced a new Star Wars Battlefront game for the next gen consoles. At their press conference EA teased the spectators with a 34-second trailer of the new game. The trailer featured an AT-AT crushing a Snowspeeder that it had been pursuing.
Recently Electronic Arts and Disney agreed to a multi-year/multi-title agreement to develop Star Wars titles, and Star Wars Battlefront is the first of the games announced as part of this agreement.
Not long after Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise from George Lucas for $4.05 billion, Disney announced that it would no longer be developing Star Wars games in-house, and closed LucasArts. At that time Lucasfilm said: “After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality ‘Star Wars’ games,”
EA didn’t announce a release date for Star Wars Battlefront yet, however they made it clear that every game that was being shown is primarily developed for the PS4 and Xbox One, which both will be released 4th quarter of this year.
It is also believed that DICE, creators of the Battlefield series will develop the new Star Wars Battlefront game. EA did not announce an official title for the new Battlefront.
