Donkey Kong Country is one of my favorite series for the Super Nintendo. So when I found out that some fans are creating a new fourth installment of the game, it made me very excited.
Here’s a look at the new game so far:
It appears that you can play as all of the Kong characters including Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong. So far the game looks really solid, and the programers have done a nice job recreating the game engine and game feel. You can follow their blog here (though it’s in Portuguese, so you may have to use Google Translate).
Let’s just hope that Nintendo or Rare doesn’t go after them and give them a C&D letter. It’d be great to see this project come to light.
Trivia: Did you know that Donkey Kong in the Donkey Kong Country series is actually the grandson of the original Donkey Kong who appeared in the arcades? In fact the original Donkey Kong character is actually Cranky Kong in the Donkey Kong Country series.
